The student conference "Ecosystems of the Future: Youth Initiatives for Sustainable Development" focuses on research concerning the Baltic and White Seas. It features two thematic tracks:

"Energy of the Future" — for young researchers developing autonomous energy systems, hydrogen technologies, smart grids, and solutions for isolated areas in the Arctic, White Sea, and Baltic regions.
"Biotechnologies for Ecosystem Sustainability" — for those seeking nature-inspired solutions, ranging from the bioremediation of oil spills and the use of microalgae for CO₂ sequestration to biogas production from waste and the bioindication of marine ecosystem health.

These tracks cover the full spectrum of youth-led research at the intersection of energy, biology, and ecology—work essential for the sustainable development of Russia's northwestern regions.
Conference Topics
Within the framework of the student conference “Ecosystems of the Future: Youth Initiatives for Sustainable Development,” two thematic sections are being held:
  • The “Energy of the Future” section
    1. Shelf projects, distributed energy, and small‑scale nuclear power generation as drivers of sustainable development in the Arctic zone and the Baltic region: experience and prospects.
    2. Autonomous hybrid power complexes based on renewable energy sources as a solution to the problems of power supply in isolated areas of the White Sea and Baltic regions: climate testing and equipment adaptation.
    3. Ensuring the reliability of isolated power systems in the White Sea and Baltic regions: the role of energy storage systems and smart grids.
    4. Hydrogen technologies and alternative energy carriers as the foundation for the greening of port and transport infrastructure in the Baltic and White Sea basins.
  • Section “Biotechnology for Sustainability”
    1. Cultivation of microalgae under polar day conditions for maximum CO₂ absorption.
    2. Energy potential of waste from fish processing enterprises.
    3. Bioindication of coastal waters of the White Sea based on the state of microbial communities.
    4. Bacterial biosorbents for wastewater treatment in port areas.
    5. Enzymatic production of biohydrogen from cellulose‑containing waste from the timber industry
    6. Economic assessment of a project to produce bioplastic from microalgae based on a combined heat and power plant
    7. Phytoremediation of the coast: selection of hyperaccumulator plants for a northern climate
    8. Assessment of the carbon footprint of a biogas plant using livestock waste compared to traditional disposal methods
